So I've been reading a lot about Kris Allen on the internet today, about how he's the most anticlimactic win ever and it's an "Idol upset" and Adam should have won and yadda yadda. As if he's just some untalented, redneck
tool that took Adam's golden crown.
Now I'm not going to be a schmuck. Of course both guys deserved to win. For fuck's sake, they both won. They're both 19E gods and goddesses now, so it doesn't make a difference. But from the beginning, Adam had all the makings of a winner with that edge at the same time. I frequently got goosebumps. I'll admit, while he was in the competition, I made it about his sexuality, too. Wow, first big gay American Idol that isn't Clay Aiken! And he wears platform boots! And by the end, I realized that's why I wanted him to win... not because I thought he'd sell records (I don't even think ADAM knows what kind of record he's gonna put out), but what he symbolized. But at the same time, I always loved Kris. I love a subdued underdog that is strong to his roots and knows the kind of music he's here to produce. The man never got enough credit for his arrangements and his emotional connect to a song. I'd been saying all season not to rule him out. He came up from behind (heh) because he had more talent in his little finger than most of the Idol contestants combined, excusing Allison and Adam, who were his equals.
A lot of people are saying it was the fundies that got him through to the top. So many people couldn't vote for the "be here or be queer!" Glambert in the end because his gayness would sweep over the nation and ruin us all! Yadda yadda. Yet somehow they (the fundies AND the Glambert fans) forget that the wonderful Adam Lambert, with all his swagger and guyliner and racy photos on the Internet, managed to make it to the #2 spot on American Idol. That is no mean feat, gay or straight or hermaphrodite or whatever. And the man will be successful. Name me one current American artist like him, openly gay (and yes, I consider him open, although he hasn't come out and said it exactly, he's not denying it either) and taking risks all in platform pumps. Well, guess what? Kris takes risks, too, and took a lot on the show, some failing and some soaring. He just did it with a lot less nail polish. There is room in this world for BOTH OF THEM.
I guess I'm tired of seeing it being called an "upset" when it's quite the opposite. It isn't an upset for anyone - for America, for the gay community, for Adam, for Kris... no one. Revel in the fact that the least likely winner of American Idol won the whole damn show. And sounds like warm butter.

So hugs to Kris!

Adam is happy!

KRADAM is still complete. :D
All in all, a good night.
